ROOF SLAB WATERPROOFING
Waterproofing the concrete roof slabs at a newly built house in Hammanskraal was the ideal setting to make use of the HydroSeal HF waterproofing system.

As HydroSeal HF exhibits high flexibility it could be used to do waterproofing on the screws, joints, overlaps and ridging where extreme movement is expected especially on metal roofs, and due to its durability, double up as a roof paint.

Acrylic waterproofing is most commonly used on roofs, parapets, patios, hollow-core slabs, balconies, retaining walls, foundations, water features, dams etc. It bonds to existing torch-on systems and covers these jointed surfaces with a seamless membrane.
Utilising a stitch-bonded polyester membrane or glass fibre mesh will enhance and strengthen the acrylic waterproofing system.
Bitumen used to be a good waterproofing material due to its nature. But with advances in technology and eco-friendly waterproofing systems, the liquid applied acrylic waterproofing solution has changed the waterproofing market and became the preferred choice when it comes to waterproofing systems for new roofs and refurbishments. Acrylic waterproofing systems are easy to apply, environment-friendly, more economical, high-performance and tools can easily be cleaned with water.
Step 1 Remove all loose and broken particles or debris. The substrate must be clean, dry and properly cured.
Step 2 All surfaces must be primed with Penetrar to bind, enhance & improve the adhesion for membrane & waterproofing coating.
Step 3 All gaps and holes must be filled in with fibre cement & Repello enhanced mixture.
Step 4 Use stitch-bonded polyester membrane on corners, cracks, joints & overlaps to strengthen the waterproofing system. Apply using Repello to embed membrane into base coat.
Step 5 Once dry apply 3 coats of liquid HydroSeal HF waterproofing membrane. Allow to dry in between each coat.
Step 6 Match the colour of the roof by painting the colour matched waterproofing.
Step 7 Paint roof if required.
Using an acrylic waterproofing system that is reinforced with a stitch-bonded polyester or glass fibre membrane has become the preferred method to waterproof flat roofs on residential properties.

Newly poured concrete roof and untreated concrete slabs are pourous and not waterproof. The preferred waterproof system to use will be a penetrating roof sealer that bind & stabilises friable areas of a concrete roof and a seamless waterproof coating that is durable, long-lasting & weather resistant.

Torch-On Waterproofing is a bitumen-based product that requires a torch to heat fuse the bitumen material directly onto the roof or slab. The torch-on is applied in overlapping sheets that create a waterproof barrier.
After a few years, the torch-on waterproofing overlaps and drain ends begin to crack and separate exposing the slab/substrate. By using a product like HydroSeal HF, torch-on applications can be maintained and updated with a seamless waterproof coating covering the entire surface.
