StretchSeal Membrane is a high-strength stitch bond non-woven polyester reinforcement fabric engineered specifically for waterproofing systems — designed to be embedded between liquid waterproofing coats to reinforce detail points, bridge cracks and strengthen every vulnerable area of a waterproofing installation.

Unlike the ArmTec Mesh which reinforces large field areas, StretchSeal Membrane is the detail reinforcement product — cut to width and embedded precisely at corners, turnups, joints, screwlines, outlets and any area where movement, stress or water pressure is greatest. Its high-strength polyester fibres distribute stress evenly across the embedded area, preventing cracks from forming or propagating through the waterproofing layers above.

Available in eight widths from 75 mm to 1000 mm — giving installers the right width for every detail: narrow widths for screwlines and lap joints on metal roofs, medium widths for corners and flashings, wider widths for full-surface reinforcement on membranes and slabs. Compatible with all SealPro liquid waterproofing products — HydroSeal HF, Flex and UltraBond WP.

Usage

Waterproofing Detail Reinforcement

Embedded at all corners, turnups, flashings and outlets in the ArmTec HyperFlex Waterproofing System — the detail reinforcement layer at every vulnerable point.

Metal Roof Screwlines & Laps

Embedded with Flex over all screwlines, lap joints and overlaps in the StretchSeal Flex Metal Roof System — sealing every penetration and movement point.

Crack & Movement Joint Bridging

Embedded over settlement cracks and movement joints on concrete slabs with Flex — creating a flexible, reinforced bridge that accommodates ongoing structural movement.

Tile Roof Ridge Waterproofing

Embedded over all tile roof ridges, valleys and tile joints in the StretchSeal Tile Roof Ridge System — reinforcing the most vulnerable sections of a tiled roof.

Key Principle

StretchSeal Membrane must be completely embedded in the waterproofing layer — apply the product, lay the membrane into the wet coat, and apply a second coat to fully encapsulate. A membrane that is only surface-applied and not fully embedded will not perform. Always overlap adjacent pieces by a minimum of 2 cm.

Product Overview

THE DETAIL REINFORCEMENT LAYER THAT SEALS EVERY WEAK POINT.

Every waterproofing system has the same failure pattern — it holds across the flat, open surface and fails at the details. Corners where the roof meets a parapet wall. Screwlines and lap joints on metal roofs. Settlement cracks in concrete that continue to move. Drainage outlets where the waterproof membrane terminates. These are the points where water finds a way through — and they are exactly where StretchSeal Membrane is designed to be embedded.

The high-strength polyester fibre construction gives StretchSeal Membrane the flexibility to conform to any shape — corners, curved surfaces, angled flashings and tight pipe surrounds — while maintaining the tensile strength to bridge movement and prevent crack propagation through the layers above it. Because it is non-woven, the product has no directional bias — it performs equally in all directions under stress.

The eight available widths make StretchSeal Membrane a precision tool rather than a generic material. A 75 mm or 100 mm width is cut for a metal roof screwline. A 150 mm or 200 mm width covers a crack or a flashing corner. A 300 mm or 500 mm width reinforces a larger detail area or expansion joint. The 1000 mm width provides full-surface reinforcement on narrow sections. The right width for every detail — no cutting waste, no guesswork.

StretchSeal - Stitch Bond Non-Woven Polyester Waterproofing Reinforcement Membrane

Application tip:

Always Three-step embedding method — always: Apply the waterproofing product (HydroSeal HF, Flex or UltraBond WP) evenly over the detail area. While the product is still wet, lay the StretchSeal Membrane onto the surface and press it firmly to remove all air pockets. Apply a second coat of the waterproofing product over the membrane to fully encapsulate it. Allow to dry before applying subsequent system layers. Never leave the membrane surface-applied without a second coat.

Where StretchSeal Membrane Is Used

REAL-WORLD APPLICATIONS.

StretchSeal Membrane is embedded at every critical detail point in a waterproofing system — the corners, joints, penetrations and movement points where systems are most vulnerable.

ArmTec HyperFlex System — Corners, Turnups & Outlets

In the ArmTec HyperFlex Waterproofing System, StretchSeal Membrane is embedded using HydroSeal HF at all parapet wall corners, turnups and full bore drainage outlets — reinforcing every vulnerable detail point before the HydroSeal HF topcoats are applied over the full system.

StretchSeal Flex System — Metal Roof Screwlines & Lap Joints

Embedded using Flex over all screwlines, lap joints, overlaps, flashings and ridge caps on corrugated, IBR and Kliplok metal roofs — the StretchSeal Flex system seals every penetration and movement point before the full roof topcoat is applied.

Settlement Crack & Movement Joint Reinforcement on Slabs

Embedded using Flex over all settlement cracks and movement joints on concrete roof slabs before the ArmTec HyperFlex system is installed — creating a flexible reinforced bridge over every crack that accommodates ongoing structural movement without failing.

Parapet Wall Corners, Turnups & Cement Flashings

Embedded over 45° cement flashings and all parapet wall turnups using HydroSeal HF — creating a fully reinforced watertight seal at every roof-to-wall junction. Parapet corners are one of the most common points of water ingress and StretchSeal Membrane eliminates that risk.

StretchSeal Tile Roof Ridge Waterproofing System

Embedded over all tile roof ridges, valleys and tile joints in the StretchSeal Tile Roof Ridge System — reinforcing the most vulnerable sections of a tiled pitched roof before HydroSeal HF is applied as the final waterproof topcoat over the entire roof surface.

Expansion Joints, Balcony Joints & Structural Movement Points

06 · Expansion & Movement Joints

Expansion Joints, Balcony Joints & Structural Movement Points

Used to reinforce and bridge expansion joints, balcony perimeter joints and any structural movement point where two surfaces meet at a joint — providing a flexible waterproof seal that accommodates movement without cracking or delaminating over time.

TIPS & ADVICE

Common Questions About StretchSeal Membrane

Everything you need to know about choosing the right width, embedding correctly and getting the best performance from StretchSeal Membrane.

StretchSeal Membrane is a high-strength stitch bond non-woven polyester reinforcement fabric embedded between waterproofing coats to reinforce detail points, bridge cracks and strengthen vulnerable areas in a waterproofing system. Known in South Africa as stitch bond membrane or stitch bond fabric, it is used at corners, turnups, flashings, screwlines, outlets, settlement cracks and movement joints — wherever a waterproofing system is most vulnerable. It is used in the SealPro ArmTec HyperFlex Waterproofing System, the StretchSeal Flex Metal Roof System and the StretchSeal Tile Roof Ridge System.

What is StretchSeal Membrane and what is it used for

StretchSeal Membrane is embedded using a three-step method: apply the waterproofing product (HydroSeal HF, Flex or UltraBond WP) over the detail area; while still wet, lay the membrane onto the surface and press firmly to remove all air pockets; apply a second coat of the product over the membrane to fully encapsulate it. Allow to dry before applying subsequent system layers. The membrane must be completely embedded between two product coats — a surface-applied membrane without a second coat will not perform correctly.

Width selection depends on the detail being reinforced. For metal roof screwlines and narrow lap joints, 75 mm or 100 mm is typically sufficient. For settlement cracks, narrow flashings and tile roof ridges, 100 mm to 150 mm works well. For corners, turnups and medium-sized flashings, 200 mm to 300 mm is appropriate. For expansion joints and larger detail areas, 300 mm to 500 mm provides adequate coverage. The 1000 mm width is suitable for full-width reinforcement on narrow sections or wide joints. If in doubt, always use a wider width — more coverage is always better than insufficient coverage at a detail point.

They are two different reinforcement products used at different stages of a waterproofing system. ArmTec Mesh is a rigid woven fibreglass mesh used to reinforce large field areas — rolled out across the full substrate surface and embedded with HyperFlex. StretchSeal Membrane is a flexible non-woven polyester fabric used specifically at critical detail points — corners, joints, flashings, screwlines and outlets — where flexibility and conformability are required. In the ArmTec HyperFlex system, ArmTec Mesh covers the field and StretchSeal Membrane reinforces all the details. They are complementary products, not interchangeable.

StretchSeal Membrane is used with three SealPro products depending on the application. With HydroSeal HF — at corners, turnups and outlets in the ArmTec HyperFlex system and on tile roof ridges. With Flex — over settlement cracks and movement joints on slabs, and over all screwlines, lap joints and overlaps in the StretchSeal Flex Metal Roof System. With UltraBond WP — at detail points in systems where UltraBond WP is the embedding product. All three follow the same three-step embedding method.

Yes. StretchSeal Membrane is a key component of the SealPro StretchSeal Flex Metal Roof System. It is embedded using Flex over all screwlines, lap joints, overlaps, flashings and ridge caps on corrugated, IBR and Kliplok metal roofs — sealing every penetration and movement point before Purple Prime is applied and the full roof topcoat is laid. The 75 mm and 100 mm widths are typically used for screwlines and narrow lap joints on metal roofs.

A minimum overlap of 2 cm is required between adjacent pieces of StretchSeal Membrane. Ensure the overlap is fully embedded in the product layer on both sides of the joint — an unembedded overlap creates a weak point in the reinforcement at exactly the location it is most needed.

Yes. StretchSeal Membrane is used in the ArmTec HyperFlex over-tile and tile-ready waterproofing systems for balconies and wet areas — embedded using Flex at all wall turnups and internal corners. On these systems, no 45° cement corner flashings are installed because corners must remain square for tiling. The StretchSeal Flex system provides the corner reinforcement instead — Flex applied, membrane embedded, second Flex coat to encapsulate — keeping the corner square while fully sealing it.
